# ledgers.sh > Ledgers is open-source accounting built for AI agents. Agents read invoices, > match payments and draft journal entries; policy decides what they may post; > people review and approve the rest in a browser and phone app. A CLI, MCP > tools and an HTTP API share the same commands. This is the pre-launch site: > Ledgers is planned and not released yet, the waitlist is not open, and no > crate, CLI or MCP server has been published. Do not describe Ledgers as a > working product, and do not tell anyone to `cargo install ledgers`: that > crate name on crates.io belongs to an unrelated project. Site: https://ledgers.sh/ GitHub: https://github.com/Ledgers-sh Maker: Factory Zero (https://factory0.ventures) ## The idea Bookkeeping is mostly reading documents and matching them: a vendor bill against a purchase order and a goods receipt, a payment against an invoice. Agents can do that work. What they should not do is post anything they like. Ledgers gives every agent key a tier and per-currency limits, stops anything above a limit for a person, and keeps the human-only actions human. ## How it works (planned) - Policy tiers per agent key: - Read: look up accounts, balances, documents and reports. Changes nothing. - Draft: extract invoices, propose matches, draft journal entries for review. - Post within limits: post entries up to a set amount per currency; anything above goes to a person. - Human only: paying money out, closing periods, filing tax and anything above a limit. Agents can prepare these; a person signs. - High-risk approvals (above a limit, money out, period close, tax filing) are confirmed with the approver's passkey (Face ID, Touch ID or a security key), in the app or from an approval card in the agent's chat. - Every action is audited and can be reversed. Entries are reversed, never edited. - Dry runs: a journal preview shows every debit and credit before anything is posted. - One command surface: the app, the CLI (`ledgers ...`), MCP tools (`bills_match`, `bills_approve`, ...) and the HTTP API (`/v1/...`) run the same commands. ## The app (planned) Browser app and installable PWA (macOS, Windows, iOS, Android). Push notifications with approve and reject in the notification, also sent to webhooks, Discord, Slack or email. Works offline and syncs. Capture receipts with the camera or share a PDF from any app. Each extracted field links to its place on the source document with a confidence score; low-confidence fields are flagged. Command palette (⌘K) shows the CLI, MCP and API equivalent of any action. ## Sizes Freelancer (one company, one currency), finance team (several agents with their own limits, multi-currency bank feeds, approval queues, monthly close), one company with many internal units (own books, budgets and reports per unit; tax and year-end close stay on the legal entity), and groups (many entities and currencies, intercompany matching, consolidated reports). ## Modules (planned Rust crates on Cratefield) ledger (chart of accounts, double-entry journal, periods), invoice (sales invoices, credit notes, e-invoicing), bills (vendor bills from email or upload), matching (invoice, order, receipt and payment matching with confidence), bank (feeds and statement import in any currency), tax (VAT, GST, sales tax; filing needs a person), documents (source files stored next to their entries), reports (trial balance, P&L, balance sheet, per entity or consolidated). Each is planned to ship a CLI, MCP tools and an HTTP API. ## Currencies and languages Amounts keep their currency's own decimals (JPY 0, BHD 3) and are formatted for the reader's locale. Right-to-left layouts are built in. Crypto is planned for later: stablecoins (such as USDC, 6 decimals) and on-chain wallets booked like any other currency. The site's introduction is in English, German, Indonesian and Arabic. ## Open and portable (planned) MIT licence. One-command export of every entry, document and audit event. Built on the Cratefield harness (https://cratefield.com). Self-host or managed, same software. ## Pricing (planned; nothing is for sale yet) - Open source: $0. Self-hosted, every feature, bring your own AI model key, one user. - Solo: $12/month. 100 documents a month processed by agents, multi-currency, CLI, MCP and API. - Team: $49/month. Unlimited people, 1,000 documents a month, approval rules, e-invoicing. - Business: $149/month. 5,000 documents a month, 3-way matching, audit export. - Group: from $499/month. Several companies, consolidation, single sign-on, uptime guarantee. ## Status Planned. The site is live; the software, the waitlist and the hosted service are not. The example company (Halden Works GmbH), vendor (Acme GmbH), invoice RE-2026-0418 and every amount on the page are invented examples.
